Wearable art - a unique and a serious artistic statement that can be worn; a marriage between fashion and the visual arts, creating a new artistic plane with the body as the sculptural centre.
Green jewelry - wearable art
The world is flooded with generic, uninspiring, factory-made jewelry and you see the same accessories in almost every shop, sometimes on a global scale! That's one reason why I launched Studio Cocoa Moon a few years ago, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
I experiment with different media and unconventional processes and lovingly craft each piece by hand, using many different materials, such as wood, metal and rubber. The brand remains ‘green’ because of the vintage and recycled items that are incorporated into the designs.
Studio Cocoa Moon jewelry is worn by everyone with an appreciation for the unusual, the artistic. Musicians, actresses, TV presenters and other people in the spotlight are among my clients. I admire women (and men) with attitude, and it is with them in mind that I design my jewelry. People who do not conform to the norm but differentiate themselves, take a stand, be it through their careers, their views on life, or through the way they dress and the accessories they wear. These people make up 99% of my clients. Each limited-edition Studio Cocoa Moon design is ‘art-to-wear'; something to treasure for years to come.

Custom Designs
Studio Cocoa Moon Art Jewelry pieces can be custom-designed according to the client’s individual preferences. This is usually a joint process, with the client providing pictures, samples of colours and ideas pertaining to what they have in mind. Existing pieces can also be adapted and customized should the client want this. In short, anything is possible!

The story behind the name
The name was inspired by my fascination with the moon. I imagine the moon to awaken our unconscious mind, our spiritual and emotional awareness. Symbolically I think a full moon presents an opportunity to see our mundane lives in the strange light of non-rational awareness and as a result inspire creative thinking. Cocoa for me represents Africa, the ‘dark continent’, as people call it. A rich and magnificent part of the world. And as much as the two are contrasts, they create a certain harmony and balance as well because without dark (Cocoa) there is no light (Moon), and if we don’t know what light is, we cannot experience dark.
